Otis and Maeve have only just found each other after some back and forth, and they are already separated again. Maeve will make it to the U.S. in the new season of “Sex Education,” thanks to her scholarship, while Otis will stay behind in sleepy Moordale. But what does the future hold for the new lovers in the Netflix series?
In the final episode of “Sex Education” Season 3, Maeve (Emma Mackey) and Otis (Asa Butterfield) finally open up about their feelings for each other, and it even seems like something like a relationship is brewing between the two. But then Maeve finally decides to accept the scholarship at the American school.
Even though this is a great opportunity for the intelligent young woman, it looks rather black for the restrained romance between her and Otis. Since Otis will stay behind in Moordale, the two will see very little of each other. Can a very fresh relationship withstand this separation at all? Unfortunately, there are indications that in season 4 it will turn out that Otis and Maeve will not have a future together as a couple.
Throughout all seasons, Maeve already had big ambitions and simply wanted more out of life. However, due to her family and financial situation, it was not possible for her to chase her dreams. Through the high school scholarship in America, she has now found a way out of the sleepy little town that has limited her so far.
Otis, on the other hand, seems more than content with his life in Moordale. Therefore, it is also rather unlikely that he will break off his life here to follow Maeve to America. But will Maeve give up her newfound freedom and return to Moordale? This seems quite unlikely after all.
This thesis is further supported by the fact that actress Emma Mackey will play a much smaller role in Sex Education season 4. In addition, Mackey has already announced that she will be leaving “Sex Education” altogether after season 4. So it seems rather doubtful that Maeves and Otis will have a big love story in their future together.
