The first season of “True Detective” was a real hit. Neither season 2 nor 3 were able to successfully follow it up. Season 4 could perhaps turn the tide again.

HBO is not only known for its high-quality and special series because of “Game of Thrones”. The broadcaster does not offer quickly produced TV series junk food, but focuses on quality. That’s probably also the reason why it was quiet for the time being after the rather unconvincing third season of True Detective.

Now, however, the fourth season is on the horizon and if it is as good as the teaser promises, it should be a complete success. But see for yourself if the setting convinces you:
As seen in the teaser, Jodie Foster plays investigator Liz Danvers, who is stationed in Ennis, Alaska. In her case, eight men who worked at the Tsalal Arctic research station have disappeared without a trace. Danvers forms a team with Officer Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) to solve the case. But as the teaser shows, Danvers is not really popular among her colleagues. So the fourth season of “True Detective” is not only about the criminal case, but also about the relationship between the investigators. We can definitely expect it to be a rather dark season, because it takes place in the polar night, where the sun doesn’t rise for weeks.
When exactly we will be able to enjoy the new episodes, HBO has not yet told us, but at least it is already this year. Hopefully, the fourth season will be shown in the U.S. relatively soon after the broadcast on WOW and Sky, where you can also find the other three seasons in the stream.

True Detective Season 4: Fresh wind blows through the new episodes
As reported by Deadline, among others, Casey Bloys, who is responsible for content at HBO and HBO Max, had spoken positively about another sequel:
“It’s safe to say that we’re working with a number of writers to find the right tone. Definitely that’s an area that could be very interesting and I think it would be interesting with a new voice. Quality is our guiding principle, so if we end up with just scripts that we don’t feel are representative or of high enough quality, we’re not going to do just anything just to do something”.

So the network was looking for a new approach for the fourth season and a new writer who could strike the right tone with the show. Apparently, the writer of the first three seasons, Nic Pizzolatto, is no longer the right one to meet these demands. However, the latter had said not long ago that he had an idea for the fourth season but did not pursue it. The script and direction has now been taken over by Issa López, who will be assisted by writer Alan Page Ariaga, and producer Barry Jenkins is also on board.

The new season will be titled “True Detective: Night Country” and the detective Liz Danvers will be played by Jodie Foster. She will also take on the post of executive producer. Jodie Foster has not taken a TV role since 1975. At her side will be detective Evangeline Navarro, whose role will be played by Kali Reis.
